CDM in Vietnam

Viet Nam is a non-annex I country and is eligible for hosting CDM projects. It signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on 11 June 1992, ratified it on 16 November 1994 and signed the Kyoto Protocol (KP) on 03 December 1998, ratified it on 25 September 2002.

The following list suggests possible sectors for CDM project activities, based on discussions to date at international level:

  • wind, solar, hydro
  •  biomass
Energy efficiency improvement
  • retrofits of power plants, factories
  •  heat recovery from power plants, factories
  •  installation of cogeneration facilities
Fuel switching  
Demand side management (DSM)
  • residential buildings
  • introduction of highly energy-efficeint appliances
2. Methane recovery Methane recovery and utilization
  • waste disposal sites (landfill)
  •  coal mining

3. Industrial processes

 
  • Cement industry
  • HFCs, PFCs, SF6
4. Agriculture Reduction of CH4 and N2O emissions  
 
5. Reforestation and afforestation
Commercial reforestation and afforestation  
Tree planting at the village community level  
6. Transportation Public transportation
  •  introduction of public buses, light rail transport (LRT), subways
  •  introduction of low CO2-emission cars
